New Study on Cloud Hosting Confirms What Most Already Know

Cloud hosting

As should be expected, cloud hosting adoption is still on the rise according to a new study by IDG. In fact, 69% of enterprises either have infrastructures or applications running on cloud hosting servers. In 2012, only 57% of enterprises were using cloud hosting services to run applications or infrastructures, which means 12% more enterprises have started using these superior web host servers in just two years.

And that’s not all. Here are a few of the other interesting findings the cloud hosting study found.

If They’re Not Using Cloud Servers Now, They Will Soon.

The study found that many companies who weren’t already using cloud hosting servers soon would be. About 18% of enterprise companies plan to use cloud hosting applications or infrastructures in the next 12 years, while another 13% plan to make the move in three years at most.

Enterprise Companies Are Spending More on Cloud Hosting Than Before.

Investment in cloud hosting services has increased by about 19% since 2012. This year, large-scale enterprises — those with 1,000 employees and more — spent $3.3 million on cloud-based applications and infrastructures, while enterprises with fewer than 1,000 employees spent $400,000 on cloud technologies.

The Reason Why Cloud Hosting Has Become More Popular Is More or Less Because It’s Better.

About 39% of enterprises choose to switch to the cloud because it had the ability to quickly get up and running, while another 39% made the move because of the lower cost of ownership cloud services provide. About 35% of enterprises made the move because they wanted to replace their on-premise legacy tech — things like outdated, financially draining data centers. Basically, companies made the switch to the cloud because it was just better.

Experts in the tech industry have long predicted the rise of the cloud, so the study’s findings should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention. It was, in a word, inevitable.
