Types of Cooling Technology

If you have been wondering how to increase server performance or about ways to help your computer function better, then you might want to look into cooling technology. Different computer components generate some extra heat that can be hard on your operating system, and can cause things to run slower than normal. There are multiple kinds of cooling technology available and the type you choose will depend on your needs.

Air Cooling

Air cooling is the means of using airflow to cool off your device. This is usually done with fans. The type of fan will depend on the system you use and the kind of computer you have. There are external fans for laptops that your computer can sit on top of. These helps to draw out heat and move it away from your laptop. However, when it comes to PCs it is more likely that you would use an internal fan. These can attach to multiple different areas or parts within the tower. They come in handy when your computer’s natural cooling system doesn’t seem to be enough.

Liquid Cooling

Liquid cooling, also called immersion cooling, is something that is more commonly used on power distributing sources like transformers. However, it is becoming more popular as a way to cool personal computers as well. When used on a personal PC it can do away with the need for fans and pumps, and when used right it can be very effective. So how does liquid cooling work? It involves immersing the computer parts in a thermally conductive liquid that has very low electric conductivity. It also requires liquids that won’t be corrosive to your computer’s parts.

Passive Cooling

Passive cooling uses a metal block attached to the chip that helps to regulate heat. On more modern computers, copper is used for this process. Passive cooling has become less popular over the years and was mainly used on older PCs. This is partially because dust build-up between the block and the area it is attached to causes performance issues and needs to be regularly cleared out.

A reliable cooling system is one of the best answers when it comes to how to increase server performance. A computer that isn’t overheated and can function properly is going to function faster. A containerized immersion cooling system is a great option for the process due to its ease of use.
